A Puzzle in Plaster:
The Inscription of
Temple XVIII at Palenque

2018_1-Winter_Mayan_unicode02 copy.jpg

Temple XVIII at Palenque

The stucco glyphs that adorned the walls of Temple XVIII at Palenque were originally mounted on the back wall of the temple's inner sanctuary. Most had fallen away by the time that Blom and La Farge recorded a few still adhering to the wall in the 1920s. Much of the original order reading is still unknown. Join us in understanding more about the temple's history and its builder, Pakal's grandson K'inich Ahkul Mo' Nahb.

This workshop has a pre-recorded introductory lecture that is available on the BEARC YouTube channel; four additional workshop meetings are scheduled for April 2, 9, 23 and 30, 2024. There will also be a Q&A session on April 16. Workshop participants will explore all aspects of the texts through readings, live lectures, participatory workshop activities, online resources, and whiteboard activities.
